The Promise Is Out Now: A Cantina Blues Slow Dance

"The Promise" is out now on every major streaming platform.

Most people know the song as When In Rome's 1988 new-wave hit, written by Clive Farrington, Michael Floreale and Andrew Mann. I took it apart and rebuilt it as a slow country dance song. I imagined it as the song for the end of the night: the band eases off, the lights come down, and you take your lover onto the floor for a slow dance.
The guitar carries this one. I play a Telecaster-style Babylon guitar, and on "The Promise" that sound gets as much room to tell the story as the vocal does.
[DRAFT QUOTE - KELO TO APPROVE] I pictured that moment late in the night when the band slows it down and you walk the person you love out onto the dance floor. That's what I wanted "The Promise" to feel like: a slow dance you don't want to end.
This is Cantina Blues, the sound I've been building on stage for years: country, Southern rock and blues with a spice of ranchero. It took shape over more than 600 live shows across South Padre Island and South Texas, and you'll hear it live with Kelo McKane & Devilla Band.
